Courtesy call on Prime Minister Kishida from Mr. Cormann, Secretary-General of the OECD (Summary)

On May 2, commencing at 9:40 a.m. local time (4:40 p.m. Japan time) for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, who was attending the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM), received a courtesy call from Mr. Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The overview of the meeting is as follows.
 
1. Prime Minister Kishida thanked Secretary-General Cormann for his cooperation in organising this year's MCM, and stated that this MCM will develop the discussion that will contribute to promote cooperation under the main theme of 'Co-creating the Flows of Change'.
 
2. Prime Minister Kishida also stated that engagement with the non-member countries is the important agenda for this year’s MCM and that the recent progress in the engagement with Southeast Asia is of great significance for both the OECD and Southeast Asia. Prime Minister Kishida said that he is pleased with the OECD’s decision to open accession discussions with Indonesia.
 
3. Secretary-General Cormann stated that he would like to ensure this year’s MCM’s success together with Japan, the chair country, and that the OECD will strengthen its collaboration with non-member countries, especially those of Southeast Asia, and work together with Japan toward the expansion of its membership.
